Spielberg Might Remake 'West Side Story'

March 5, 2014

With Robopocalypse delays holding off the battle between robot and man, Steven Spielberg may move on to mankind's second greatest threat: dancing street toughs. Deadline reports that Spielberg (Always) is considering a remake of the 1961 classic West Side Story. There's not yet a writer attached, and "Spielberg hasn't done anything more than register his interest," apparently thinking he can do a better job with a reimagined Sharks and Jets battle than Bring It On: In It To Win It did. Meanwhile, Spielberg's Cortés film already has a script, a re-writer, and star attached, so we can probably expect that if not Robopocalypse to get off the ground before we'll ever see the wondrous Spielbergian take on threatening snapping sequences.
