Like its predecessor, The Purge: Anarchy takes place in a United States where, once a year, emergency services are shut down, the nation is subjected to 24 hours of utter lawlessness, and luckily no one ever just burns entire cities down, because that would be super easy and basically end our civilization. So thanks, arsonists!
With Ethan Hawke out of the picture, this time the focus is on Captain America: The Winter Soldier's Frank Grillo. He's a man on a mission; his son was seemingly killed, and now he's out for briefly-legalized vengeance. Unfortunately for him, beyond being a vigilante murderer, Grillo is also a great guy, so when some innocent victims need his help, his whole plan gets sidetracked. Turns out, in the end, what The Purge is really about is effective time management.
