'Wet Hot American Summer' People Made the Most Willfully Clichéd Rom-Com

April 29, 2014

As Wet Hot American Summer was to '80s summer camp comedies, so is They Came Together for the rom-com genre. David Wain directs the film from a script he wrote with Michael Showalter that gives knowing winks to pretty much every romantic-comedy trope you shake a Heigl at. The infinitely likable Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler play our hackneyed couple, and a bunch of other expected comedy people show up in supporting and cameo roles. Despite being in WHAS, He's Just Not That Into You, and Valentine's Day, somehow Bradley Cooper seems to have managed the statistical improbability of avoiding this. Such are the peculiarities of the human heart and Cooper's agent.
