Coen Brothers Writing Hanks and Spielberg's New Movie

May 21, 2014

For the second time in two years, Joel and Ethan Coen are handing off a script to someone else--and this time for a far more interesting prospect than putting Cameron Diaz in a mostly-forgettable remake of Gambit. As reported by THR, the brothers have now gone for-hire to provide a script for Steven Spielberg's (Amistad) next project, a Cold War film that Tom Hanks dug his heels into the moment he heard "Spielberg" and "war" in the same sentence. The duo will be redrafting Matt Charman's screenplay about real-life attorney James Donovan, who was enlisted by the CIA to negotiate the release of a U-2 pilot shot down and captured by the Soviets. With the Coens involved, now we can be even more confident that one of said Soviets is totally going to be written for Peter Stormare.
