Denis Leary Gets New Show, Will Not Play Municipal Worker

June 30, 2014

Having already played a policeman and a fireman on TV, Denis Leary is moving on to another career popularly picked as a five-year-old's dream job. FX has announced that Leary will eschew "astronaut" to play a rock star in Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, a new comedy series the network has given a 10-episode order.

Leary will reportedly play Johnny Rock, an aging singer who almost hit it big despite having the name of a Flintstones musician. His addictions to sex&drugs stopped that from happening--he was never sober and slept with his bandmates' spouses--but years later, now as a middle-aged bartender, the character is trying to get himself and the band back together for one more shot at glory.

John Corbett, Elizabeth Gillies, Elaine Hendrix, and Bobby Kelly are attached to co-star. The series is set to premiere on FX in 2015, to assumedly be followed immediately by "Asshole (Heavy Metal Redux)."
