Starz is developing The Girlfriend Experience as a series, finally bringing the sensation of female companionship to the home, where we only dreamed it could be. Based on the 2009 Steven Soderbergh film of the same name, the series will play out across a 13-episode anthology season. Each half-hour episode will reportedly "explore the relationships of the most exclusive courtesans who provide their clients with far more than just sex." Providing the so-called "girlfriend experience," these women become compassionate, intimate confidantes, and probably have some obligation to see your band play.
Soderbergh will executive produce alongside Clean, Shaven writer-director Lodge Kerrigan and Sun Don't Shine writer-director Amy Seimetz, the latter two also serving as dual auteurs on the project. Soderbergh explained, "I thought: 'Let's make it a different woman in a different city, let's pair two independent writer-directors, one male and one female, and let them do the whole thing."
There is no indication original star Sasha Grey will return in any context. Probably doesn't want to pigeonhole herself as just a certain type of actress.
