Ryan Reynolds wants his kidnapped daughter back, and he's more than willing to grumble into a phone about it, in The Captive, a film impressive only in that it is not another Taken clone. This is more of a Prisoners, Reynolds starring as a guy who foolishly trusts the safety of a rural pie store parking lot, leaving his young child to be kidnapped by a pedophile who knew his chance would come if he just kept eating enough pie. If that weren't bad enough, years later, after detectives Rosario Dawson and Scott Speedman had already given up hope, new clues begin emerging that suggest the creepily-mustached pedophile is also a really elaborate sadist voyeur: he's apparently been sneaking cameras in to watch Reynolds and wife grieve. Or at least that's what I've been able to glean from this trailer and the early reviews, which mostly suggest that Atom Egoyan's latest gets even more absurd than that sounds. Better stick with magic space rings and magic body-swapping fountains, Double-R.
