Following yesterday's announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch would be joining Andy Serkis's The Jungle Book, now it's been revealed just what other actors will also pretend they're animals for our amusement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Tom Hollander, Eddie Marsan, Peter Mullan, and, naturally, longtime animal impersonator Andy Serkis himself have signed on for parts. Bale will bring his talent for growl-talking to Begheera the panther; Blanchett is playing Kaa the python; Harris, Mullan, and Marsan are wolves Nisha, Akela, and Vihaan; Hollander will play the evil jackal Tabaqui; and Serkis will escape being pigeonholed as just a simian by casting himself as the bear Baloo. Serkis's film is now ready to go up against Jon Favreau's Disney-produced Jungle Book, which has a cast that includes Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong'o, and Christopher Walken. As is the law of the jungle, only the one with the most familiar celebrity voices and motion-captured expressions will survive.
