Studio Ghibli may be shutting down production, but there yet remains more tears and/or whimsy still to come from the studio. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, the latest from Grave of the Fireflies director Isao Takahata, arrives in the US this October, and /Film has the first teaser. It doesn't reveal much if anything of the story, but it does give a nice look at the film's distinctive aesthetic--which trades out clean lines and smooth movement of most of Ghibli work for a looser, sketchy, jarringly-kinetic approach.
In the preview, a girl suddenly jumps to her feet and bursts through a home, taking out screens and shedding layer upon layer of clothing as she sprints down the street. Glad to know I'm not the only one who does that regularly.
