Dane DeHaan and Rooney Mara will reportedly star in Ziggy, a musical Variety promises will not expand on the universe of the long-running comic strip Ziggy. Set in the Roaring '20s, the film would therefore seem to not even touch upon the irreverent technological misunderstandings that are the hallmark of the Ziggy name. Instead, this will boringly see DeHaan play a hunchbacked escape artist who moves to New York and falls for a powerful media mogul's beautiful fiancé (Mara). Australian Diesel Schwarze, who worked with Baz Luhrmann on Moulin Rouge, will write and direct the film as his feature debut. It's said he'll bring this tale to life in "a visually inspired and exciting way," once again thoroughly differentiating this Ziggy from Ziggy.
(note: This post briefly listed the wrong Mara sister as star. Whoops.)
