Though the Top Gun sequel years ago fell apart due to the loss of director Tony Scott, as it turns out, a persistent Tom Cruise is not going to let the raincloud of death spoil his shirtless volleyball rematch. According to THR, Cruise remains attached to reprise Maverick in Top Gun 2, and Paramount has set a screenwriter to tackle the follow-up. That writer: Justin Marks, who most recently wrote Disney's Jungle Book and before that provided the script for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. It's said the plan is for the story "to show the relevance of good old fashioned pilots in today's high-tech, drone-centric war environment." Say what you will about the effectiveness of drones, but you can't beat a classically trained pilot when it comes to thinly-veiled homoeroticism.
