Like a marshmallow mascot brought to life, so too will The Heat be recreated on a larger, spectral scale as Ghostbusters 3. That's the word from THR, where they've confirmed the rumor Paul Feig would be directing the Ghostbusters sequel and added the news that his The Heat writer Katie Dippold will help him with the screenplay.
As was previously suspected with Feig's involvement, it's still said that the new Ghostbusters team will be composed of all women, but now it's also said that the film will "no longer be connected to the earlier movies." So apparently now this isn't Ghostbusters 3 as much as a gender-swapped reboot? That much isn't yet confirmed, but the rest has been, Feig tweeting, "It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call." Finally, a counterargument to the theory women are genetically predisposed to be ghost-nurturers.
