Weekend Box Office: Tank Defeats Life, Love

October 20, 2014

The animated Book of Life and Nicolas Sparks' The Best of Me were no hope against the power of Brad Pitt's tank and Shia LaBeouf's tedious method acting. Fury took the top spot at the box office this weekend, while in limited release, Birdman managed to earn an impressive $415k on just four screens--the strongest per-screen average this year after The Grand Budapest Hotel. A good weekend for Michael Keaton is a good weekend for mankind.

Here's the box office top five:

1. Fury - $23.5 million

2. Gone Girl - $17.8 million

3. The Book of Life - $17 million

4. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - $12 million

5. The Best of Me - $10.2 million
