Fans of Fantastic Four comics have long known Doctor Doom to be Victor von Doom, reigning dictator of the isolated European country of Latveria. But as comics fans also know all too well, these days, comic book movies are mandated to be gritty and realistic. As such, in the new Fantastic Four film--as in real life--now we're finding out that the guy you thought was an obscure foreign country's royalty is actually just some asshole online.
That's the word from Doctor Doom himself, Toby Kebbell, who recently revealed to Collider the supervillain's many alterations under the direction of Chronicle's Josh Trank. For one thing, he's not a doctor anymore. He's a programmer, who goes by the moniker "Doom." Also, "goes by" is being kind of generous, because that's just the name he uses when he's leaving his embittered comments on blogs. Said Kebbell:
He's Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story. And I'm sure I'll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours--I'm a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I'm "Doom".
I'll try to withhold judgment until I've at least seen how the film handles the Thing's Disqus profile.
