'Fast/Furious' Series May Close on Two-Part Finale

November 12, 2014

The Fast/Furious franchise may have finally reached the end of its impossibly long runway. According to Deadline, Universal is in talks with director Justin Lin to surprisingly put an end to their franchise before Vin Diesel gets too old to drive. Though Lin recently gave custody of his bald guys to James Wan for Furious 7, Wan has now committed himself to directing the Conjuring sequel, so the studio is said to be hoping to bring back Lin to shoot a couple Fast/Furiouses back-to-back. Those two films would--like the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises--serve as a multi-part finale that puts the series to rest until its inevitable reboot. They will, of course, also serve as an analogue to the franchise's final scene, in which Vin Diesel and The Rock come together, fuse into a giant, smooth bus, and drive off into the distance.
