Guillermo del Toro is bringing his love of Victorian-inspired horrific fantasy to the world of streaming video. THR reports that the upcoming Crimson Peak director has teamed up with his Pacific Rim writer, Travis Beacham, to adapt one of Beacham's decade-old screenplays for Amazon Prime. Originally titled A Killing on Carnival Row, the script will now be expanded into a full series simply titled Carnival Row--in keeping with del Toro's recent trend of fitting everything in a largely nondescript "[adjective] [noun]" mold. The setting is described as "a noir, Victorian-tinged city where humans, fairies and other creatures co-exist"; del Toro added that, thanks to the serial format, "We can now really focus on the world and the politics of what it is to be a magical being in Victorian steampunk atmosphere where you are seen as a lesser being." How fantastical compared to our world, where all at a carnival are equal in being seen as a lesser being.
