Sick of waiting for Ken Burns to finally follow up 1990's The Civil War with the long-awaited Civil War 2: Lee's Revenge, PBS has decided to look elsewhere for someone to make them some more Civil War programming. As announced today, the public television network is teaming with executive producer Ridley Scott for a yet-untitled series about the United States' war of secession.

Though it at first looks like PBS is trying to corner the market on Civil War event television, it seems that what they're really after is another series in the coveted "I think my girlfriend watches that" genre. Like with Downton Abbey, the six-episode run will see PBS delve into melodrama involving some wartime nurses; ER's David Zabel wrote the script, which it's said is fact-based and follows two female medical volunteers, on opposite sides of the war, who collide at a Virginia hotel-turned-infirmary.
