Bad news, bad guys and dog murderers: John Wick is coming back to kill you all again. Or at least that's the hope of John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, who recently told Movies.com that they've quietly started work on a sequel to their surprising cult hit.
"We're in development right now," Stahelski said, adding, "We have ideas for days, and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original."
Still, while they say they have the action figured out, there remains the issue of the story to drive it. Because where do you go once you've already used the obvious plot device: the assassination of a puppy given by a dying wife.
"It's the matter of story and how much you like the character," Strahelski explained. "That's always the most important. If there's great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn't have charisma you're not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it's Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we'll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome."
In naming off action stars, the implication is that Strahelski would of course need his to come back for the sequel, but as of yet, Reeves does not seem to be a sure thing. The duo "didn't go into any specifics on story or if Reeves would return." Though, if the actor does want out, at least we know the one thing that can always get John Wick back in the game. CANICIDE.
