Pee-wee Herman, the man that introduced us to a living sofa chair, is heading to Netflix, the service that turned we, humanity, into a living sofa chair. According to Herman's official website, Netflix has picked up the rights to release Paul Reubens' belated sequel, Pee-wee's Big Holiday, thus saving us from any of dad's jokes about this being Reubens' latest "theatrical release."
As previously reported, Judd Apatow is producing and fellow Apatow-produced Netflix newcomer Paul Rust has co-written the script with Reubens. And the director that was teased several months ago? John Lee--an extremely apt choice given his work on such prior puppet-heavy, child-like-but-also-adult-liked programs as Wonder Showzen and Food Party. A release date has not yet been revealed, but production on the long-rumored film begins next month. Laurence Fishburne remains unconfirmed.
