Weekend Box Office: Hot Tub Deemed Less Sexy Than Bondage

February 23, 2015

Like a branded, first-time bondage kit based on a fan-fiction novel, Fifty Shades of Grey is clearly not built to last--even if it is managing to hold well enough. Audience attendance for the film dropped nearly three-quarters in its second week, but that was still good enough to best newcomers Track & Field: White Savior and Her?, which respectively fell in at fourth and fifth place. Hot Tub Time Machine 2, meanwhile, bombed with only $5.8 million, audiences showing due reluctance toward anything modern-day John Cusack won't even touch.

Here's the weekend box office top five:

1. Fifty Shades of Grey - $23.2 million

2. Kingsman: The Secret Service - $17.5 million

3. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water - $15.5 million

4. McFarland, USA - $11.3 million

5. The DUFF - $11 million
