Ian McKellen Plays a Sherlock Taking Even More Drugs in 'Mr. Holmes' Trailer

March 5, 2015

In recent years, Sherlock Holmes has already found renewed fame as an action hero and a modernized crimefighter, but now he's on his most difficult case yet: chasing after that Last Exotic Marigold Hotel crowd with Mr. Holmes. The film sees an aged-up, 90-something Sir Ian McKellen as an elderly, dementia-addled Holmes reflecting on his last case, from back when he was just a spry young 75-year-old Ian McKellen. Milo Parker plays the little boy Holmes connects with in recounting his tale, while Downton Abbey introducer Laura Linney, always eager to lurk in the periphery of British period melodrama, plays the mother. Gods and Monsters, The Fifth Estate and Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn's Bill Condon directs, finally combining his loves of McKellen, Sherlock, and a pale, century-old character building a relationship with a school-age kid. Here's a trailer:
