'It Follows' Star To Play Female Lead in 'Independence Day' Sequel

April 28, 2015

Maika Monroe is going from It Follows to another film about an otherworldly threat you get rid of by transmitting a nonsensical virus. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the actress is in talks to sign up for Independence Day 2, joining Charlotte Gainsbourg in shrugging and saying, "Well, I guess I'm doing ridiculous blockbusters now." Monroe will reportedly play love interest to Liam Hemsworth's heroic lead and daughter to Bill Pullman's Thomas Whitmore, who it's implied is still the U.S. president somehow. ID4-Year-Terms-Are-Ignored-Under-the-Dictatorship-of-Bill-Pullman is scheduled to hit theaters June 24, 2016.
