FutureCloon Tops a Slow Weekend Box Office

May 26, 2015

Well, maybe Tomorrowland's optimistic view of the future will give it boundless hope to recoup its $190 million budget on Blu-rays and Clooney action figures. Over the Memorial Day weekend, Disney's adventure film took the top spot at the box office but didn't exactly wow anyone in accounting, falling short of estimates with less than $32 million for the weekend ($40.7M if you give it Monday).

The only other new competition, the Poltergeist remake, did roughly as expected with a middling fourth-place opening, as is deserving of any remake that willfully subtracts Craig T. Nelson.

Here's your top five:

1. Tomorrowland - $33 million

2. Pitch Perfect 2 - $30.8 million

3. Mad Max: Fury Road - $24 million

4. Poltergeist - $22.6 million

5. Avengers: Age of Ultron - $21.7 million
