CGI Dinosaurs, CGI Mind Fiends Dominate Box Office

June 22, 2015

At the box office, it was a big weekend for both dinosaur zoos and the tiny demons that live inside children's brains. While Jurassic World held on to first place with a massive, $102 million second weekend--behind only to The Avengers second weekend--Pixar's Inside Out nonetheless managed its own record-breaking opening in the runner-up spot. With $91 million, the film's opening was Pixar's second-biggest ever, behind only Toy Story 3. But more impressively, it topped Avatar to score the biggest opening ever for an all-original movie--that is, a film not based on any pre-existing property. I guess lingering goodwill for Herman's Head doesn't count?

Anyway, here's your box office top five:

1. Jurassic World - $102 million

2. Inside Out - $91.1 million

3. Spy - $10 million

4. San Andreas - $8.2 million

5. Dope - $6 million
