Live-Action 'Akira' Back in Development with 'Daredevil' Showrunner

June 9, 2015

Still hoping to regurgitate Akira back into theaters in some grotesque new form, Warner Bros. has yet again restarted development on their ever-in-the-works live-action remake of the anime. THR reports that, following a shut-down on development in early 2012, the studio has now kicked things off again by hiring Marco Ramirez to write a new draft of the script. Ramirez has previously written for Sons of Anarchy and Orange is the New Black, and he was recently promoted to co-showrunner for the second season of Daredevil. Perhaps he has the necessarily experience with super-powers and little red, leather outfits to finally get this film made? We can only hope. Not because this is necessary, but because the studio's innumerable, misguided, failed attempts are starting to take on such a sad, Charlie Brown-kicking-a-football tone that we might as well just give them this one.
