June 23, 2015

Dick Van Patten, the classic sitcom Eight Is Enough's patriarch, an actor seen here eating dog food, has died at the age of 86. Van Patten's publicist has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the actor died of complications due to diabetes while at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica.

Van Patten will be remembered by many as an ever-enjoyable supporting star in several Mel Brooks comedies, Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men in Tights among them. More recently, he was flashed by Kitty on Arrested Development, and in 2011 he appeared on Hot in Cleveland.
