Another Holiday To Be Tainted by Light-Hearted Ensemble Film

July 1, 2015

Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, and Kate Hudson will reportedly star in Mother's Day, Garry Marshall's latest way to muck up a holiday with a mawkish ensemble comedy. Marshall, of course, previously directed the romantic comedies New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day. He makes the cinematic equivalent of drug store teddy bears--cheap, barely thought-out holiday sentiment that will nonetheless probably make Mom cry. And this time, she'll cry far more knowingly, as Mother's Day will focus on the loosely intertwining stories of mothers. Héctor Elizondo will presumably also show up at some point, as he is the living card Garry Marshall attaches to each of these cloying gifts.
