Like a breathless child excitedly telling us all the movies in their collection, Disney has rattled off yet another cartoon classic they own, and also that they're now turning into a live-action film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is now adding the 1963 Arthurian tale The Sword in the Stone to the growing list of animated tales they want remade with actual, physical humans. Game of Thrones writer-producer Bryan Cogman is playing right in his sword-loving wheelhouse to pen the script.
The Sword in the Stone joins Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Winnie the Pooh, Fantasia, Aladdin, and the Prince Charming character among the cartoons Disney has or has plans to adapt to live-action. For now, a live-action The Lion King remains an unspoken line in the savannah sand, mercifully uncrossed save for eight times a week on Broadway.
