Remember how Inherent Vice's narrator had the beautifully unique voice of like a child chain-smoker? Well, that's because it was singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom. She was Sortilège in the film, and now, as a nice payback for that, Paul Thomas Anderson has returned to music video directing to do the video for her new single, "Sapokanikan." If you've ever wanted to feel what it would be like to wander the streets of New York with Joanna Newsom as she warbles, you'll love it. If you've ever wanted Anderson to top his video for Fiona Apple's "Paper Bag," I'm sorry, but that probably isn't going to happen. It's still the best.
