Giving us all some small ray of hope for the future to keep us from just giving up entirely, Universal Studios and Legendary Pictures have promised that, some day, we will once again see giant robots punch the shit out of some monsters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the companies have vaguely upgraded the status of Pacific Rim 2 from "delayed indefinitely" to now simply a later date from the August 4, 2017 release it was previously scheduled for. Pitch Perfect 3 will now take over the August date, but it's said Universal continues to move forward on making Pacific Rim 2 "the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves." In their statement, the studio added, "To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of Pacific Rim 2 so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film." We can only hope that, by 2018, the team will have at last figured out how to get a chain sword in both robot arms this time.
