Weekend Box Office: 'Hotel Transylvania 2' Sets September Record

September 28, 2015

At the box office over the weekend, a new record was set by Grown Ups: Spooky Econo Lodge 2. The sequel ended up topping the first Hotel Transylvania's opening by nearly $5 million, in the process also taking the original's record for the biggest September opening of all time with $47.5 million. In other words, expect September 2018 to be a fall when the cooling air is once again filled with Adam Sandler's Count Chocula impressions.

Meanwhile, also in new release, the Nancy Meyers comedy Doesn't Robert De Niro Seem Old for an Intern? managed a substantial enough second place, while Eli Roth's cannibal horror The Green Inferno just barely managed to get in the top ten with $3.5 million. Here's your top five:

1. Hotel Transylvania 2 - $47.5 million

2. The Intern - $18.2 million

3. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials - $14 million

4. Everest - $13 million

5. Black Mass - $11.5 million
