Neill Blomkamp's 'Alien' Sequel on Hold Pending 'Prometheus 2'

Himself falling victim to the sci-fi inequality that underlines every one of his films, Neill Blomkamp has been forced to halt his Alien movie while Fox instead proceeds with Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel.

"Alien is kinda holding/ pending prometheus 2. So I shall be working on other things... as much as I love the xeno- and Lt ripley," the District 9 director tweeted last night.

Blomkamp had been set to make a new Alien sequel--one that would likely ignore Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection--his next film, but now it's unclear when or if that will ever happen. Though Ridley Scott is reportedly set to start shooting his Alien: Paradise Lost in January, if Fox truly wants to wait for the Prometheus franchise to be done as a whole before moving forward with a new Alien, it may be a long wait: Scott last month insisted on giving us as many as three Prometheus sequels.
