For a decade now, James Cameron has hoped to direct a live-action adaption of Battle Angel Alita, the '90s manga that was sort of like Bourne but with a cyborg lady. Yet, with each passing year, he's only grown further away as he gets more and more engrossed in this Avatar video game he's been playing. So, now Sin City director Robert Rodriguez is officially going to make that for him instead, and Cameron will just produce.

"Robert and I have been looking for a film to do together for years," Cameron said in a statement. "So I was pumped when he said he wanted to do Battle Angel. He's very collaborative and we're already like two kids building a go-kart, just having fun riffing creatively and technically." Predictably given their two respective pedigrees, Cameron and Rodriguez actually just riffed against a green backdrop, and they'll add in the go-kart in post.
