Happy Christmas: 'Star Wars' Made a Billion Dollars for You

December 28, 2015

Though nothing will ever redeem it for its holiday special, Star Wars nonetheless had a pretty great Christmas. Over the holiday, The Force Awakens unsurprisingly retained its top spot at the box office, dropping less than 40% for a massive $153.5 million second weekend. While that gave the film the biggest second weekend ever, the bigger story was that, combined with international grosses, it has already made over a billion dollars in just ten days--the fastest that milestone has ever been reached, of course. In other words, hey!--Disney should make a Star Wars 2!

Meanwhile, in a distant but fairly respectable second place we had The Other Guys 2: Paternity Rivalry, while in third, we had Jennifer Lawrence's Moppingjay, Part 1.

Here's your weekend box office:

1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens - $153.5 million

2. Daddy's Home - $38.8 million

3. Joy - $17.5 million

4. Sisters - $13.9 million

5. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip - $12.7 million
