Meet NYC Creatures That Sound Like Funny People with HBO's 'Animals' Trailer

January 26, 2016

Take an extremely New York-specific The Secret Life of Pets, turn it into a comedy showcase for generally well-regarded comic performers, and you've got a basic gist of HBO's new series, Animals. It's produced by the Duplass Brothers, and Marc Maron, Nick Kroll, Lauren Lapkus, Matt Walsh, Ellie Kemper, Nathan Fielder, Jenny Slate, Zach Woods, Molly Shannon, Kumail Nanjiani, Wanda Sykes, Horatio Sanz, Paul Scheer, Danny McBride, Jason Mantzoukas, Cobie Smulders, and outlier Jessica Chastain are among the performers providing animal voices (even that lengthy list is leaving out many established comedy names in this thing). This trailer doesn't really look as funny as its pedigree would imply, but clearly it will at least be worth giving the series a go when it premieres next Friday night. Names like these can't be shrugged off like a disgusting subway rat batted off a shoulder.
