Start a Modern Day, Gas Station Relationship with Netflix and Judd Apatow's 'Love' Trailer

January 18, 2016

Already, Judd Apatow has been a writer-producer on series that include The Ben Stiller Show, The Larry Sander Show, The Critic, Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, and Girls. Next month, he'll hope he doesn't fuck up that fairly unblemished TV résumé with his first streaming series, Love.

Starring Community's Gillian Jacobs and Comedy Bang! Bang!'s Paul Rust (who also co-created), the series, at its surface, seems like the latest update to the tiresomely well-worn "skinny white dork meets pretty, freeing girl" genre. But with this first trailer, there are hints that maybe Love reaches beyond nerd wish-fulfillment porn to actually give its female lead a real viewpoint and equal voice here, so it's likely worth giving a chance. Especially because it's on Netflix, so giving it a chance can be done very cheaply and easily. Why not, right?
