'The Revenant' Leads Aptly Miserable, Snow-Covered Weekend

January 25, 2016

It was a weekend when many Americans were stuck in the cold, trudging through snow, and definitely not being raped by bears. Looking to share the experience with Leonardo DiCaprio, the country braved the elements to turn up for The Revenant, hoisting the Oscar-contender to the #1 spot in its fifth week (third of wide release). That sent The Force Awakens to second, Ride Along 2 plummeting to a quick third, and new releases Dirty Grandpa, The Boy--with their visions of a living doll, and a living doll that goes on vacation with his grandpa--into the fourth and fifth positions. The 5th Wave, meanwhile, failed to make waves. PUN INTENDED.

Here's how it panned out:

1. The Revenant - $16 million

2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens - $14.3 million

3. Ride Along 2 - $13 million

4. Dirty Grandpa - $11.5 million

5. The Boy - $11.3 million
