Keira Knightley To Play Catherine the Great, as Decreed by Barbra Streisand

February 18, 2016

Keira Knightley's continuing mission to look forlorn in prestigious, costumey period pieces has scored another victory. Just weeks after securing herself another chance to wear a fancy dress in Colette, now she's in talks to get all corseted up for a Catherine the Great biopic. When you type "Catherine the Great" into Google Image Search, the second suggestion is "dresses," so you know we're talking some primo overly-elaborate gowns here. Just wait until you see how a candelabra's flames flicker off her satiny frocks. The word "gorgeous" will spring to mind, and your brain will be correct. The film will mark Barbra Streisand's first feature directing work since 1996's The Mirror Has Two Faces, and its script topped the 2014 Black List for best unproduced screenplays. Keira couldn't give two shits about that. She's in this for the dresses.
