Leonardo DiCaprio Will Take Us to Yet Another Dystopian Young-Adult Post-Apocalypse

February 2, 2016

Picking up on trends as belatedly as he'll finally pick up that Oscar, public vapist Leonardo DiCaprio is producing an adaptation of a dystopian young-adult novel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio's Appean Way is teaming with Paramount for film based on The Sandcastle Empire, a yet-to-be-published book by Kayla Olson.

The story is "set in 2049 when the Earth is at a breaking point due to climate change, coastal flooding and overpopulation," and it centers on a young woman who is, for whatever reason, the only one capable of leading the fight against an extremist, classist government of the future.

Fittingly for an outspoken environmentalist like DiCaprio, it's said the tale carries a heavy ecological message. It is, after all, made up of 90% recycled post-apocalyptic plot elements.
