Lin-Manuel Miranda To Star in, for Some Reason Not Write Songs for 'Mary Poppins'

February 24, 2016

Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the ridiculously popular Broadway musical Hamilton, will star in but apparently not knock a couple new songs out for Disney's Mary Poppins sequel. According to Variety, Miranda has signed on to the belated follow-up--which will feature new songs from Hairspray's Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, rather than from this guy who everyone is going nuts for right now. Miranda will reportedly play the Burt-like surrogate Jack, a lamplighter who, despite just winning a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, wasn't even hired to crank a few hits out for this goddammer. Miranda joins Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, and hopefully they can get Andrew Lloyd Webber to be George Banks.
