Actress Patty Duke, best known for her dual role on her self-titled sitcom and her Oscar-winning role as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, has died. According to TMZ, Duke has passed away at 69 due to sepsis from a ruptured intestine.
A statement from Duke's family--son Sean Astin among them--read: "This morning, our beloved wife, mother, matriarch and the exquisite artist, humanitarian and champion of mental health, Anna Patty Duke, closed her eyes, quieted her pain and ascended to a beautiful place. We celebrate the infinite love and compassion she shared through her work and throughout her life."
Duke will also be remembered as a singer and mental health advocate; she herself suffered from and brought acceptance to bipolar disorder and, of course, hot dog madness.
