Good Night, Sweet Musician: Prince Dies at 57

April 21, 2016

Continuing to be a miserable year for gender/genre-bending, otherworldly, ageless rock stars, the musician and occasional writer, director, and actor best known as Prince has died. The Artist's publicist has confirmed to the Associated Press that he died this morning at his Paisley Park estate in Minneapolis. Prince had recently been hospitalized and it's said he'd been fighting a flu. He was 57.

In the world of film, Prince made his on-screen debut as The Kid in the 1984 cult classic Purple Rain. Two years later, he would go on to direct himself in Under the Cherry Moon and again in the sequel to Purple Rain, Graffiti Bridge, which he also wrote. He also did the entire, entirely awesome soundtrack for 1989's Batman, and two years ago he played himself on New Girl.
