Various Gods Fall at the Weekend Box Office

Well, in Batman v Superman's second weekend at the box office, it at least proved true to form in keeping things big yet wildly below expectations. After its $166 million opening, the film followed that up with just over $53 million this weekend, taking a huge 68.4% drop. But that wasn't the only blatantly religious imagery-filled sequel to miss the mark over the weekend.

With its thesis already thoroughly outlined in God's Not Dead 1, God's Not Dead 2 came nowhere near the inconceivable success of its predecessor. While the original film opened with $9.2 million in just 780 theaters, the new, Melissa Joan Hart variety made just $8.2 million despite showing in over 2,400 theaters. But if the God's Not Dead franchise is now dead, does that transitively mean that God also died? Hopefully they can explore that in 3. In the meantime, here's your weekend box office:

1. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - $52.4 million

2. Zootopia - $20 million

3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 - $11.1 million

4. God's Not Dead 2 - $8.1 million

5. Miracles from Heaven - $7.6 million
