Shia LaBeouf To Play John McEnroe in Film That Feels a Little on the Nose

May 16, 2016

Angry, oft-disruptive actor Shia LaBeouf has signed on to play his petulant analogue of '80s tennis. He's reportedly signed on to star in Borg/McEnroe as a young John McEnroe, which is a little easy, but sure. It works. Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason will co-star as McEnroe's iconic rival, Björn Borg, and by necessity of this movie being half-focused on a Swede, Stellan Skarsgård will also appear--as Borg's coach, Lennart Bergelin. Janus Metz will direct, but first he will change his name to "Chair Umpire," so that if LaBeouf suddenly freaks out on him they can still use the take.
