At the box office over the weekend, it was a battle for second as The Jungle Book continued to reign and Mother's Day continued to be a terrible idea for a movie. While The Jungle Book took in another $42 million, Huntsman: Winter's War and newcomer Keanu had a tight fight for the next spot, both making just under ten million (early estimates are giving the victory to Huntsman, for now).
Debuting in fourth, Mother's Day may well end up being a mass grave for Garry Marshall's mawkish holiday ensembles. While Marshall's Valentine's Day opened to $56 million in 2010, and his New Year's Eve opened at just $13 million a year later, his latest calendar-based rom-clusterfuck continued the decline with $8.3 million. Bad news for Boxing Day, Garry.
Here's your weekend box office:
1. The Jungle Book - $42.4 million
2. The Huntsman: Winter's War - $9.39 million
3. Keanu - $9.35 million
4. Mother's Day - $8.3 million
5. Barbershop: The Next Cut - $6.1 million
