Daniel Craig is ditching Bond to head to premium cable, much as Clive Owen did with his dreams of being Bond. THR reports Craig is signed on to star in and executive produce Showtime's Purity, a limited series based on Jonathan Franzen's recent novel of the same name. The series will focus on a young woman named Purity, or Pip, who's interning in South America at a group that deals with the world's secrets. Craig will play Andreas, described as "a German provocateur," so he must make the real weird porn.
Little Children's Todd Field is executive producing and writing, and will direct all 20 episodes. The Hours's screenwriter David Hare will also write, along with Franzen himself. Production is expected to begin in 2017, with an air date some time after we catch up on all this other crap we're supposed to watch, let's hope.
