'Sicario' Sequel Has Title, Director for Benicio Del Toro To Glower At

June 2, 2016

Lionsgate has revealed a director and title for their Sicario sequel that, christ, you just know they're hoping to build into a whole Sicario cinematic universe. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the film will be called Soldado--the Spanish word for "soldier"--and that it will be helmed by Gomorrah director Stefano Sollima (Gamorrah the series, not the film it was based on). As previously reported, the follow-up will shift focus to Benicio del Toro's Alejandro Gillick, who, with his dark hair and little beard, Lionsgate probably imagines as sort of the Tony Stark that will lead the Sicario franchise toward its big Soldados Unidos ensemble event. While Emily Blunt is not returning, Josh Brolin is expected to reprise his role as CIA agent Matt Graver, the Black Widow who I'm sorry but is not getting their own movie.
