'Rocketeer' Reboot To Give Us Someone New in Super-Cool Helmet, Jetpack

July 28, 2016

Disney is reportedly developing a sequel/reboot to The Rocketeer, the 1991 Joe Johnston film that was, like Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger, a '40s serial-inspired film that really would have been so much better had Spielberg actually done it.

While the original starred Billy Campbell in the title role, alongside Timothy Dalton and his evil mustache and Jennifer Connelly and her not-so-evil heaving bosom, the new film will focus on a black female lead and, apparently, her team, as it's titled The Rocketeers. The new film will be written by Wainy Days writers Matt Spicer and Max Winkler, and it will take place six years after the original, seeing a young African-American girl take on the Rocketeer mantle "to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jet-pack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War." What a wonderfully inclusive way to ignore how clearly the Japanese would and still will beat us to fucking jetpacks!
