It's official: the next Star Trek will continue the series' longstanding tradition of using time travel to justify some inexplicable team-up. Just as young Kirk met elderly Spock, Shatner's Kirk met Captain Picard, then he also met those 1980s whales that one time, James T. Kirk is now going to meet his dead dad somehow.
"Chris Pine's Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father," Paramount has reportedly confirmed.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are writing the screenplay, and Chris Hemsworth, who played the elder Kirk in 2009's Star Trek, is already attached to reprise the part in the fourth film, in which the two early-30s Kirks are going to absolutely dominate Starfleet's father-son field day.
